Likely scam
JOANN Fabrics fake bankruptcy / clearance-sale impersonators
Paid ads for an online "JOANN bankruptcy sale" at 80-90% off point to lookalike storefronts (e.g. joann-clearancesale.shop, joannclosingstore.com, joannoutlet-store.site) that clone JOANN's logo, layout, and product photos. The real JOANN filed for bankruptcy in early 2025, liquidated its stores IN PERSON ONLY, and ended its own online selling on March 6, 2025; its brand and private-label IP were then acquired by Michaels in June 2025 (joann.com now redirects to Michaels). No standalone "JOANN bankruptcy clearance" website exists, so these lookalike storefronts are counterfeit. Buyers who pay receive phony confirmation emails, receipts, and tracking numbers, then get nothing at all or a random cheap item such as sunglasses or a toy, while the charge posts under an unrelated merchant name. The FTC issued a federal consumer alert on May 7, 2025 and the BBB logged more than 280 complaints by the end of April.
Brand impersonation
“A fake-storefront impersonation racket exploiting JOANN's real bankruptcy: the ads are counterfeit, the standalone "80-90% off online sale" does not exist, and JOANN itself is the impersonated victim, not the seller.”

The evidence — every signal, shown
Identity & legitimacy
Real JOANN is an impersonated victim
JOANN Fabrics is the impersonated brand, not the perpetrator: it entered bankruptcy in early 2025, liquidated its stores in person, and ended its own online sales on March 6, 2025. Its brand and private-label IP were acquired by Michaels in June 2025, so any legitimate JOANN-branded products now sell through Michaels (joann.com redirects there) — no standalone 'JOANN clearance' storefront is authorized (FTC / AARP / Michaels).
Lookalike clone domains
The scam runs through recently registered lookalike domains such as joann-clearancesale.shop, joannclosingstore.com, joannoutlet-store.site, and joannfabricdeals.com that copy JOANN's logo, layout, and catalog product images (MalwareTips).
Payment
Fake receipts, charge under another name
After paying, buyers get phony confirmation emails, receipts, and tracking numbers, and the charge shows up on their statement under a different, unrelated merchant name rather than JOANN (FTC).
Dropship & impersonation
Nothing or a random junk item shipped
Victims report either receiving nothing at all or a random unrelated item such as sunglasses or a toy instead of the fabric or sewing machine they ordered (MalwareTips).
Ad behavior
Pushed via Facebook, Pinterest, Nextdoor
The FTC's May 2025 consumer alert states people report seeing ads for a fake online JOANN bankruptcy sale while browsing Facebook, Pinterest, or Nextdoor (FTC).
Stolen JOANN branding in creative
The ads and follow-up emails use JOANN's own logo, corporate address, and promotional imagery to look authentic, borrowing the real brand's identity to sell a sale that does not exist (AARP).
Complaints
280+ BBB complaints, FTC alert
The Better Business Bureau received more than 280 complaints about the scheme through the end of April 2025, and the FTC followed with a federal consumer alert on May 7, 2025 (AARP / FTC).
Review authenticity
Easy to verify as fake
Any ad or site advertising a standalone online 'JOANN bankruptcy sale' can be confirmed fraudulent by checking the real brand directly — JOANN's liquidation was in-store only, and joann.com now redirects to Michaels — rather than clicking the ad (FTC).
